1991

In May 1991 the club tour was organised to Holland, organised by Joe Phelan, with help from John Stewart and Sean Mahon. There was along article in the 21st Anniversary Book, which we don’t need to repeat, but it would be fair to say that rugby was the main purpose of the trip, and they did go unbeaten, though many could not remember. An interesting line in the story mentions a character that went on to become part of future history of the club. He was a touring guest of the club from Delvin and the line states the following “ Marcel’s Bar was drunk dry after two days at which stage Rod Cosgrave had to be prised from his bar stool after being up for a solid 48 hours non-stop.’’ Little has changed!

Ashbourne were runners up in the McGowan Cup that season as well losing out to Navan.
