2021

If 2001 was to be remembered as the Foot and Mouth year where travel was limited, it can also be remembered as the year that Ashbourne won the Provincial Towns Cup Plate final in Portlaoise beating Roscrea. It will also be remembered as the Judas final when a certain Robert Grimes announced that he was leaving the club for Skerries and had to wear the Judas tee shirt for the evening. At least in that case Robert returned and all was forgiven. In the U18 Leinster League Ashbourne were runners up in the Plate that season.

In this period Sean Mahon lead the development team in the expansion of the clubhouse and changing rooms, which were completed and opened in 2001. Eugene Kennedy was the president and oversaw the opening of the new facility. But it became obvious over the coming seasons that the focus should be on the development of the facilities. At the time the club had only two pitches and was limited in what could be done. To celebrate the opening Ashbourne hosted a Junior Interprovincial game between Leinster and Ulster. This happened on the 14th of September 2001.

In 2001/2002 Ashbourne were relegated back to Division 2 after a tough season and the following season the club went about stabilising itself. The 2nd XV were runners up in the Jenkinson Cup.
