Ashbourne Senior 2nd side win 1st Round Jenkinson Cup game.
The first game of the new season was played at Ashbourne Rugby Club when the club welcomed our North East neighbours Swords Rugby Club in the first game in this season’s Jenkinson Cup. This a competition that our 2nd senior XV take part in.
Played in warm conditions Ashbourne went behind by 6 points before hitting their stride and running out winners by 22 points to 6.
It was a mixture of players stepping up from youths to senior rugby and more experienced players and two tries from Fergus Bobbett and one from Chris Markham helped seal the win. One of the players stepping up was Niall Andrews who contributed a penalty and two conversions as well as running the show from the 10 shirt.
The team as a whole played well and there were good showings from Nicholas Bobbett, Chris Markham, Carl Keogh, Niall Andrews and Alex McGrath. But man of the match went to Harry Wilson, returning to the game from a period out of the game. Others to play their first game of senior rugby were Michael Morgan, Aaron Murphy and Daragh Braniff.
Thanks to Swords Rugby Club for the great game and we wish you well for the season to come.
